Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Kenilworth Primary School.

Kenilworth Primary is a one-form entry primary school, admitting one class of 30 children into Reception each September. We also have a Nursery offering 15-hour and 30-hour places to children from the term after they turn three.

At present there are two admission processes, one for Nursery Admissions and one for Primary Admissions.  Parents are invited to apply to the school directly for a place in the Nursery Class.

Visit our school

We warmly encourage you to visit Kenilworth Primary before applying. Seeing our school in action is the best way to get a feel for our community and whether we're the right fit for your family.

Headteacher tours are available throughout the year. Upcoming dates for tours are listed below:

  • Tuesday 13th October 2026 at 9:30am
  • Tuesday 20th October 2026 at 9:30am
  • Tuesday 3rd November 2026 at 9:30am

To book a tour with Mrs Sampson, please contact our school office:

Nursery Admissions

Our Nursery offers places for children from the term after they turn three. We provide both 15-hour and 30-hour funded places.

Please note: Attending our Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception class. You must apply separately for Reception through Hertfordshire County Council.

To apply for a Nursery place, please contact the school office on 0208 953 3459 or email admin@kenilworth.herts.sch.uk.

Admission to the school for a Reception place is arranged via the coordinated admissions scheme, organised by Hertfordshire County Council.

Oversubscription criteria

Once the closing date has arrived, County will then consider all the applications made. If there are less than 30 applications made, all offers will be made.

If we receive more than 30 applications, places will be allocated using the following criteria in order of priority:

  • Children with an EHCP naming the school
  • Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children
  • Medical or Social Reasons
  • Children with siblings already attending the school
  • Parents taking up the 30 hour offer
  • The distance the child lives from the school

Important: For criteria 1-3, you must submit supporting evidence with your application. Without this evidence, these criteria cannot be considered.

Appeals

If your application is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal.

Appeal timeline:

  • You have 20 school days from the date of your decision letter to lodge your written appeal
  • You'll have a further 20 school days to submit additional evidence
  • You'll receive at least 10 school days' notice of your appeal hearing
  • Decision letters will be sent within 5 school days of the hearing wherever possible

For information on how to appeal, please contact Hertfordshire County Council or see the information provided in your decision letter.

In-year Admissions (casual admissions)

If you are looking for a place in any year group other than Reception, this is called an 'in-year' or 'casual' admission.
