Vision and Values
Our Vision:
'High Aspirations Today, Inspiring the Leaders of Tomorrow.'
We believe that by fostering ambition and a love of learning in our children now, we are equipping them with the skills and character needed to become confident, ethical and successful leaders in their future lives and communities.
Our Core Values:
The following six values are central to everything we do. These values were developed collaboratively, following consultation with our staff, students, parents and governing body, ensuring they truly reflect the aspirations of our community. We actively seek to instill, foster and develop these essential qualities in every child throughout their time with us:
- Kindness & Empathy: Understanding and sharing feelings of others, showing compassion and thoughtfulness in actions.
- Respect: Valuing ourselves, others, our community and the environment. Treating everyone fairly and politely.
- Resilience: Having the emotional strength to keep trying, learn from mistakes and bounce back when faced with challenges.
- Celebration of Difference: Appreciating and welcoming the diverse backgrounds, beliefs, cultures and abilities that make our school and wider society so rich.
- Moral Courage: Having the strength to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult and to challenge injustice.
- Self-Belief: Having confidence in one's own abilities and judgement; knowing that with effort, anything is possible.
British Values at Kenilworth Primary School
We believe that the development of British Values underpins everything we do at Kenilworth Primary School. These are defined as:
- Democracy
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We are proud to be a No Outsiders school, where everyone is welcomed, respected and celebrated for who they are. Everybody belongs here. Our inclusive ethos ensures that all pupils learn to value diversity, challenge discrimination and recognise that there are no outsiders in our school community. This is promoted through weekly assemblies and year group lessons that use high-quality, empathy-focused texts to deepen understanding and encourage reflection.
The promotion of British Values is central to our pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and prepares them for life in modern Britain. These values are taught explicitly through our Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education (PSHE) curriculum and are woven throughout our broad and balanced curriculum. British Values are promoted through assemblies, displays, class work and within everyday day interactions, helping our pupils grow into confident, respectful and responsible members of society.
Democracy and the Rule of Law
At Kenilworth Primary School, Democracy and the Rule of Law are key themes that feature prominently in our assemblies and underpin our House Team system.
Following a special assembly launching the house system, each house holds a democratic election to choose their House Captains. Pupils who wish to stand for election write an deliver campaign speeches to their house members before every pupil casts their vote for their preferred candidate.
This year, we were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, who spoke to the children about the importance of democracy and how using their voices in school helps them to become active, responsible citizens within the wider community.
To make the experience authentic, the local council provided polling booths and ballot boxes, enabling every pupil - from Nursery to Year 6 - to take part in the voting process.
Our House Captains take on number of responsibilities throughout the year, acting as positive role models and helping to lead school events and initiatives. Governor reports have praised the success of the house system, nothing that pupils have developed confidence, leadership skills and a strong sense of teamwork throughout their involvement.
Individual Liberty
At Kenilworth Primary School, we encourage all children to develop a strong sense of individual liberty by understanding their rights and responsibilities. Pupils are supported to make informed choices in a safe and nurturing environment, where their opinions are listened to and respected. Our work with Voice 21 explicitly supports pupils with developing their oracy skills to achieve this.
Through out PSHE curriculum, No Outsiders lessons and assemblies, children learn about personal freedoms, making safe choices and expressing themselves with confidence. Staff guide pupils to understand that while they have the right to make their own decisions, they also share responsibility for the wellbeing of others.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our school values and underpins everything we do. At Kenilworth, we teach pupils that mutual respect means recognising the value of each individual.
Through class discussions, collaborative learning and team activities, children learn the importance of listening to others, working together and celebrating differences. Respect is modelled by all staff and embedded in our school culture - from how we speak to one another to how we celebrate achievements and resolve disagreements.
Tolerance and Understanding
As a No Outsiders school, we celebrate the rich diversity of our community and actively promote tolerance and understanding of different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
Pupils learn about a range of religions and worldviews through our RE curriculum, assemblies and special events such as faith days and cultural celebrations. Visitors and members of the school community are often invited to share their experiences in assemblies and workshops, helping children to develop curiosity, empathy and respect for others' beliefs.
