On the 17th May every year, the people of Norway celebrate their National Day or syttende mai. This is an official public holiday to remember the day in 1814 when Norway declared itself an independent nation. They have huge parades, fly flags, make speeches and many dress in traditional Norwegian costumes. Lena from Year 1 and her family marked the occasion by dressing in a beautiful Norwegian costume, playing games and baking a delicious cake. They told us that each county has a different style or colour of traditional costume to represent their area.
